Administrative Assistant

This position performs a variety of paraprofessional accounting transactions within the Revenue Processing area in the Office of the Bursar. The position coordinates with other related offices regarding student accounts, housing, food service, financial aid disbursement dates, fee payment deadlines, return of Title IV compliance, Title IV credit balance refunding compliance, and state and federal aid funding compliance and reconciliation. This position represents the University externally to governmental agencies, vendors, students, and their parents, and the general public. The position requires the utilization of communication skills in responding to more difficult and/or sensitive customer service problems and complaints on behalf of upper management, as well as other duties as assigned. The position requires handling of currency and preparing deposit tickets. The position requires working with multiple software systems.
Responsible for providing accurate and secure receipting, processing, and reporting of revenue collected for tuition and fees, room and board, parking permits, citations, departmental revenues, and other cash receipting activities including posting tuition and housing waivers, as well as assisting in distributing refunds to students in a timely and accurate manner. Verifying outstanding financial holds do not exist before releasing refund checks. Responsible for the execution of OASIS installment plans including advising students regarding payment amounts, fees, and payment due dates.
Responsible for performing accounting functions in assisting in the reconciliation of revenue receipted, preparing financial reports and in examining, analyzing, and interpreting accounting records and financial information to advise management and high-level accounting staff. Work is performed under limited supervision, working from established policies and procedures.
The position requires cross training in various aspects of collections contracts exemptions fee assessment and refund policies campus-based, state, and federal loan programs and accounting policies and procedures.
The position requires a mathematical aptitude, excellent oral and written communications skills, organizational skills, a basic functional knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, and an ability to work well under pressure both independently and within a team. This position requires a high level of attention to detail and accuracy, must be able to work independently within general guidelines. Must be able to analyze student accounts to provide accurate answers to students and parents with FERPA permissions.
Location MU – Marshall University Salary Range $25,600 – $33,300 Salary may be increased based off education, experience, and internal equity. Salary Grade 3
